A Carlisle Deputies Troopers

Can a single dad with a criminal past find love with the cop who pulled him over?

When single dad Quinton Jackson gets stopped for speeding, he thinks he’s lost both his freedom and his infant son, who’s in the car he’s been chasing down the highway. Amazingly, State Trooper Wyatt Nelson not only believes him, he radios for help and reunites Quinton with baby Callum.

Wyatt should ticket Quinton, but something makes him look past Quinton’s record. Watching him with his child proves he made the right decision. Quinton is a loving, devoted father—and he’s handsome. Wyatt can’t help but take a personal interest.

For Quinton, getting temporary custody is a dream come true… or it would be, if working full-time and caring for an infant left time to sleep. As if that weren’t enough, Callum’s mother will do anything to get him back, including ruining Quinton’s life. Fortunately, Quinton has Wyatt for help, support, and as much romance as a single parent can schedule.

But when Wyatt’s duties as a cop conflict with Quinton’s quest for permanent custody, their situation becomes precarious. Can they trust each other, and the courts, to deliver justice and a happy ever after?

Strong Believable Characters

Character Name:  Quinton Jackson

Character Age:   24

Brief Character Description: (i.e. Hair Color, Eye Color, Body Type):  Quinton has a medium build, with blue eyes and blond hair that’s grown out just enough to be a little shaggy.

What is my character’s social status? He is a single parent.

Is she/he privileged/underprivileged in relation to other characters?  He has had a tough life and made some wrong decisions.

How does she/he talk to other characters as a result, and what does this say about her personality? (As an example, a character might be from a wealthy family but might speak kindly and unaffectedly to people of less privilege, suggesting that the character is not warped by social position and status).
Quinton lacks confidence and is really trying to get his life together.  But he knows what’s important and is willing to stand up for those values.   When his son is put in danger by the boy’s mother, he becomes fierce and will do anything to stand up for Callum

How old is my character? Does she/he speak typically for her/his age, or are there details about her/his speech that convey something out of the ordinary about her (for example, a young character who uses bigger words than normal for her/his age group can seem precocious or pampered).  Quinton speaks normally for his age.

How does my character develop throughout the story, and what effect does this have on her/his voice? (For example, in George Bernard Shaw’s play, the central storyline is a professor of phonetics’ attempt to turn Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney girl, into a ‘well-spoken’ lady.) This change in voice brings about changes in the dynamics between characters and in the trajectory of the character’s choices.  Quinton develops in confidence as he learns that he has to stand up for his son if he wants to be able to provide a proper home for Callum.

Flaws are relatable they help build a strong believable character. What are some flaws your character/s have?  Quinton has made mistakes.  He denied who he was and spent time in trouble as a teenager.  But he realizes he needs to get his life together for Callum as well as himself.   Its Trooper Wyatt who takes a chance on him and helps light the way.

Is it a secret love that he/she hides behind his/her cold and cutting words, or does he/she truly loathe her/him?  Not really.  Being hurt and feeling like you’re on the outside all the time, can turn a person cold and cynical.

Is his/her dialogue genuine or deceiving?  Genuine.  At least Quinton is a genuine person.  A lot of people in Quinton’s life are deceiving.

What could the contrast between the overconfident way he/she speaks and the way he/she teases?

What is he/she hiding from her/him?  Quinton isn’t the kind of person to hide things.  Yes, there are things in his past that he is not proud of, but he comes to learn to face them.

More interestingly, how does the way he/she speaks vary depending on whom he/she is speaking to?  It varies greatly.  With Wyatt Quinton starts to open up and trust.  With Alicia, Callum’s mother, he will be suspicious and guarded until they day he dies.

Is he/she more open to some characters than others?  Most definitely.  Wyatt takes a chance on him and Quinton opens up to him.  To others he can be guarded and to Alicia he is almost hostile.
