Blurb/Synopsis:
When nursing student Jane graduated a semester early and
returned home for Christmas break she expected to spend the time visiting her
depressed mother, who developed a nasty drug habit after the death of Jane’s
father. Jane was instead greeted by her mother being held at gunpoint by her
drug dealer “Big Daddy.” In a desperate attempt to save her mother’s life, Jane
agrees to work off her mother’s debt as one of Big Daddy’s “entertainers.”
In an instant, Big Daddy has taken everything from Jane
including her family, her name and her freedom. As Jane adjusts to her new life
as Tatiana, the sex worker, she desperately attempts to hold on to her
identity, dignity and any semblance of safety or normalcy. She struggles to
navigate the dynamics of living and working with the other girls and how best
to cope with servicing the club patrons. Will Jane survive and continue to
recognize the woman she sees in the mirror each day?
Zach closed the door. It helped to muffle the sounds of the
club so we could speak at a decent volume.
“Zach, I—”
He stepped towards me and wrapped both arms around me. He
pulled me into his chest, “You scared me. You were bleeding, and crying and you
just passed out,” he said.
“I’m sorry,” I said. I wrapped my arms around his torso as
well. After a few more seconds he pulled back and held me by my waist. He
leaned in and he kissed me. I pushed my mouth back into his a little more
firmly. He pushed back. I felt his tongue graze my lower lip. I bit down on his
lower lip before I let him slide his tongue into my mouth. He pulled my body
closer to his. He felt warm. I slid my hands up his chest and over his
shoulders. He stepped back with me towards the desk. I perched on its edge. He pushed
himself between my legs. I felt his warm hands move from my bared stomach down
onto my hips. He moved one hand onto my thigh and pushed it up under my skirt.
He caressed my inner and outer thigh. All the while we remained kissing, now
with both our tongues moving against each other. He was the first to break from
our lip lock.
“You wanted my help?” he asked.
“Yeah with my hand,” I said.
I had to catch my breath.
He lifted my hand and untied the knot. He unraveled it slowly and tossed
the dishrag into the waste barrel when it was completely unwound. He pulled
gauze and medical tape from the kit. He poured hydrogen peroxide onto one of
the gauze pads. I pulled my hand back a little anticipating the sting. Zach
reached out and took my hand and gingerly pressed the wet pad onto my wound.
“This kind of reminds me of your first night on the job,” he
said.
“Oh yeah! You did bring out the first aid kit didn’t you?”
“Yeah. I totally wanted to take care of you too,” he said.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
He moved his hand over the spot on my leg where a small pink
scar laid, “What guy in their right mind would want to miss a chance of playing
doctor with you. Plus I thought you were really cute. I wanted to get into your
good graces,” he said.
“Why? So I wouldn’t tell Big Daddy you were dealing drugs to
us?”
“Well there is that, but I also enjoy being able to do
this,” he said as he leaned into me and kissed me once more.
Tell my fans a little bit about yourself and your books.
Hello! My name is
Rose Flynn. I am 27 years old. I’m married and I have two precocious cats. I am
a Hufflepuff and long time fan of all things fiction. I grew up in Yonkers, NY
and have been writing since I was 12 years old. Some of my favorite authors
include Holly Black, Jenny Han, Herbie Brennen, Jane Austen, Charlotte &
Emily Bronte, JK Rowling, Sarah J Maas, Deb Harkness and Naomi Novik. Although
I typically enjoy writing fantasy and adventure stories, my first published
work is Part I: Tatiana, which follows the story of a girl whose life is turned
upside down by her mother’s drug addiction. It’s a fast paced novel following
Jane as she tries to survive her circumstances the best she can with the help
of a few fellow characters. This story deals with some of the incredibly unfair
and traumatic things that women deal with including sexual assault, rape, sex
trafficking and abuse in a fictitious-thriller story context. This book
definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone and I think has helped me to grow
as a writer.
How would you introduce your books to someone that has yet
to read them?
One of my early readers described the book as “Fifty Shades
of Grey meets Criminal Minds.” The book is a blend between dark romance,
erotica and a thriller. It’s fast-paced and my goal was for it to feel more
like fiction than traditional romance. There’s a good amount of sex scenes, but
I’m hoping they feel like part of the story as opposed to feeling gratuitous.
What inspired you to start writing?
Reading ofcourse! I started writing at a time in my life
where there was a lot of chaos. It helped me to channel my energy into
something useful that also served as a way of escaping. I wanted to write so
that I could help other people escape into the pages for a while like I did
while reading. The first thing I ever wrote was this terrible 70-page science
fiction story about a lost princess returning to her planet that drew heavily
from an anime that I can no longer remember the name of.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
I enjoy baking, horseback riding although I don’t get to do
it often, archery, hiking, crafting, and amateur photography with my
cell-phone. I am very active on
Pinterest and I’m just beginning to get into crystals. I also spend a lot of
time in bookstores and eat a lot of Mexican food.
What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
Just keep writing. Don’t question it, just let it flow forth
from whatever place it is coming from. You can always go back and edit it later
(but, please actually take time to edit, especially before asking for
feedback). Also don’t just talk about writing, actually do it, even if its only
a couple sentences here and there.
What’s your favorite scene/line from your works?
Hmm. From the first book, I would have to say the scene
where Aidan and Jane meet. It is very sweet. It’s the first time Jane feels
humanized in months. It leaves an impact on her. There are others too, but I’m
afraid to describe them for fear of giving too much away. I can tell you one of
my favorite lines from the second book, instead: “This wasn’t Beauty and the Beast or Fifty Shades of Grey. This was my own
personal hell. I was a narcissistic egomaniac’s play thing, who because he was
wealthy, thought that meant he owned me.”
What's the hardest thing about writing?
For me it’s writing really emotional content. I am someone
who is pretty sensitive and I will literally be sobbing while reading or
watching a movie and likewise, I will be sobbing when something truly sad or
terrible is happening to my characters. Jane goes through a lot. It took months
to write some of the darker things that happened to her and a lot of wine.
What are you currently working on?
I just finished the first draft of Part II: Libby the next
installment in the Broken Winged Angel series. I am now in editing phase on
Part II and gearing up to start writing Part III.
Part I Tatiana is the first novel in Rose Flynn's debut series Broken Winged Angel. Rose Flynn has had a passion for writing since she was 12 years old. She grew up in Yonkers, New York and attended college and graduate school in Pennsylvania. She currently lives in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia with her husband and two cats.
