The dream cast for Heart and Home is surprisingly easy.   I had very specific images og these characters.

Alan – I think I would love to have him played by Jared Haibon.  But he would have to shave because when he grows a beard it looks awful.  However he has the cheek bones and intense eyes that speak to me as Alan.

Haley – I think I’d like Nick Robinson.   Now that’s he’s grown up a little from Love Simon, I think he would be perfect for Haley.  He still has that innocent look that would really work.

What would your dream cast be?

Andrew grew up in western Michigan with a father who loved to tell stories and a mother who loved to read them. Since then he has lived throughout the country and traveled throughout the world. He has a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and works in information systems for a large corporation.

Andrew’s hobbies include collecting antiques, gardening, and leaving his dirty dishes anywhere but in the sink (particularly when writing)  He considers himself blessed with an accepting family, fantastic friends, and the world’s most supportive and loving partner. Andrew currently lives in beautiful, historic Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Genre:  YA Fiction

Publisher: Rhetaskew Publishing

Release Date: Oct 5, 2020

Edition/Formats Available In: eBook & Print

Blurb/Synopsis:

Short Synopsis:

Leah and Sasha are 17-year-old friends who had been close to one another since elementary school, but as the summer approaches they find their friendship tested in ways they never anticipated.

Following graduation, Sasha's privileged life and perception of the world around her is suddenly altered when an old childhood friend persuades her to join in a campaign against an injustice after his best friend is killed by the police.

But joining the protest has unforeseen consequences for Sasha, distancing her from Leah, who becomes jealous of Sasha's new friends and finds herself on the opposing side, protesting alongside her group of new white friends.

As the tension mounts between the two bitterly opposed factions, a tragedy strikes and threatens to make Sasha and Leah enemies. Can they find a way to resolve their differences, putting them to the side and learn to accept each other's viewpoints? Or is their long friendship finished for good?

Long Excerpt:

17-year-old best friends Sasha, a black teenager and Leah, a white teen are two girls from affluent backgrounds and live comfortable lives, attending a well-established private Christian academy in St Louis. As they enter their final year, the main things occupying their minds are graduating and their senior prom.

But the lives of two popular girls are about to undergo a transition that neither of them wanted or expected when Mitchell, a young African-American boy from the city’s East View High School is shot and killed while walking home from a basketball game, by a police officer who had mistaken him for someone else.

Now tensions are rising among the community where he lived, and the citizens of St. Louis are angry.

One night, while Sasha is out, she sees her old childhood friend, Ricardo, who is protesting the death of Mitchell. Curious about him and wondering if there is anything, she could do to become involved, Sasha talks to her friends about it.

They aren’t interested in getting involved however, and Sasha’s parents also forbid her from doing anything. As the closely held views she once had are quickly evaporating, Sasha makes a momentous decision and goes against all the advice she is given.

She decides to go against her parents and friends and protest downtown with Ricardo and his friends, Rashad and Victoria, who all attended East View High School. When Sasha feels like her friends have turned against her Ricardo and his friends are there for her.

But her determination to fight for justice for Mitchell causes a rift in her relationships. An argument with Leah drives a wedge between them and leads Leah to take the opposite viewpoint, taking sides with those who are supporting different viewpoints, while Sasha’s boyfriend is jealous of the time she is spending with Ricardo and breaks off their relationship.

But there’s a bigger problem that neither girl knows about the groups they support. A war has been going on for several months between them and now Sasha and Leah have been sucked into it by their new friends.

Realizing her error, Sasha tries to reach out to Leah, but her friend’s stubbornness prevents her from accepting the olive branch and Sasha has to accept that the friendship is at an end.

Then, one night, a confrontation in a club leads to Rashad being severely beaten by Jacob and Joshua, two of Leah’s group.

Leah witnesses the assault and tries to intervene but is threatened by them and pushed to the ground. Now fearful of repercussions Leah turns to Sasha for help, knowing that her father is a lawyer.

She goes to the police station to tell the truth, which puts her and her family in danger from Jacob and Joshua, so her parents send her to their private lake house in the Ozarks, which nobody knows about. Her friends Leo, Sasha and Cameron accompany her for her safety and to talk over what happened during the summer.

Leah and Sasha become friends again. Sasha has a big going away to college cookout, which she invites her friends she met this summer and her friends from her school. This is when they all say their farewells and discuss the views of protesting and get Sasha’s dad’s thoughts on the matter.

Blurb/Synopsis:

A Carlisle Deputies Novel

When Deputy Nick Senaster chastises a bunch of college kids at a bar, he doesn’t think anything of it, even if their leader is gorgeous. The guy is too young and way too cocky, and soon Nick has an emergency foster placement to focus on. His first job is ensuring ten-year-old Ethan knows someone cares for him. But Nick doesn’t realize Ethan is a package deal.

When Alexander finds out his abusive stepfather, Dieter, has lost custody of his half brother, he’s torn between relief and dread. Alexander can’t get custody until he can provide a home for his tiny family. In the meantime, at least Ethan’s foster father will let Alexander visit.

So of course the man turns out to be the cute but dour cop who gave Alexander a hard time.

Soon Nick and Alexander discover they misjudged each other. Nick is more than an authoritarian automaton, and Alexander has a drive and a maturity that belie their first meeting. But between a campaign of intimidation from Dieter, their own insecurities, and the logistics of dating with Ethan’s fragile sense of stability hanging in the balance, they have their work cut out for them if they want to build a future.

“A tournament!” one of the guys shouted, and they all formed up to play.

Nick turned away, grabbed a menu, ordered a dozen wings from Jason, and returned to his beer. More laughter welled from around the pool table, and then a ball slammed against the bar near Nick’s leg. He jumped as one of the guys raced over to retrieve it.

“Sorry,” he said, meeting Nick’s eyes for a second with the deepest blue eyes he had ever seen. Suddenly Nick’s throat went dry, and he nearly tipped his beer reaching for the glass. Their eye lock lasted only a second, and then the guy hastily turned away and went back to his friends.

“Someone needs to teach them how to play,” Jason said, clearly a little amused.

“Or maybe sober them up. How long have they been here?” Nick turned back to the pool table.

“A few hours,” Jason reported.

Nick inhaled and cleared his throat, catching one kid’s eyes and motioning him over, and they responded as a group.

“How do all of you plan to get home?” he asked gruffly and reached into his pocket, showing them his badge.

“Dude…,” the kid groaned. “I got a van outside. We all came in that.” His clouded eyes meant he’d probably already had too much.

“Is there anyone who hasn’t been drinking?” Nick asked, and they all looked at each other like they had never thought of it.

“I’m the designated driver,” the cute guy who retrieved the pool ball answered. “I haven’t had anything to drink in well over an hour, and even then it was just one beer. Do you want to perform a sobriety test on me or something?” The kid stepped forward, and once again Nick was almost hit in the chest by the intensity in those eyes. His face had been sculpted by the gods, with high cheekbones, a perfect nose, and hair so red it almost glowed. God, he was gorgeous… until he opened his mouth. “You know, we’re just having a little fun, and we’re not hurting anyone.” He put his hands on his hips, and his eyes burned with righteous indignation almost as bright as his hair. “Wait… no, I do not give you permission for any sort of test, and don’t think I did earlier. Unless you have proof that I’ve broken the law….” He cocked his eyebrows, and it might have been funny if Nick wasn’t already tired and pissed.

“I wasn’t threatening anyone.” He slipped off the stool. “I was only warning all of you and making sure that someone responsible was making sure all your friends got home.” He met the kid’s gaze with a stony one of his own. “Drinking and driving is never a good idea, and…” He raised his gaze to where one of the guys was lying on the pool to table trying to make a shot. “It seems your friends have had more than their share.” He crossed his arms over his front, knowing it would push his chest out and make him seem bigger and intimidating. “Just be careful.” He turned back to the bar just as Jason set down his plate of wings.

Nick did his best to sit and eat, drinking the last of his beer and then switching to water. Jason kept his glass full, and Nick breathed deeply to try to unwind. Until another pool ball made an appearance, this time flying across the bar, knocking over glasses and making a mess.

“You better take that shit back or I’ll break your head.” Another ball followed, and Nick caught it before the flung ball could do any damage.

“That’s enough!” Nick snapped. “All of you against the wall, now!” He was done with this shit. “I mean it. You are out of control.” He pinned each of the guys with his gaze until the redhead stepped forward. “Don’t pull anything after that little display.”

He also knows just the man he needs.
Former Marine Barry Malone would love a second chance with Phillip—he just wishes the romance could be rekindled under better circumstances. But Phillip’s stalker is escalating, and if Barry cannot solve the mystery of who wants Phillip dead and why, he might lose him for good. Barry’s determined, but the investigation struggles against the wit of a crafty killer—one who is closer to Phillip than they could have realized.
Luckily Barry is even closer, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the man he’s falling in love with all over again.

“Everyone hides things in the bottom drawers toward the back. They think it’s a safe place, but it’s always the first place you should look if you want to find out people’s work secrets.” Heston half smiled, and Phillip knew he was joking, at least to a degree. “This man is a supervisor, here all the time and during off hours. He could easily have planted the cameras without anyone seeing. He has an office with plenty of privacy, but when I walked in here, I got this strange vibe, and then I saw that.” He pointed to a picture of Phillip and Manny. “Everyone else has pictures of their family in their offices, but he has a picture of the two of you.” He shrugged. “I saw that, and when I looked further, I found those.”

“Really.” Phillip put his hands on his sides and immediately wished he hadn’t when the muscles pulled. He’d been in here many times and never paid any attention to the picture.
“Now, this doesn’t prove anything in itself, but it’s damned suspicious,” Heston added.
Phillip nodded and felt cold. He wanted to get out of the office right the hell now. “Have you been through the rest of the work areas?”
“Yeah. And I didn’t find anything else. Oh, there are some things that people probably don’t want the entire office to know.”
Phillip held up his hands. “Don’t tell me unless it’s illegal. Then I’ll have to take action. But otherwise, I don’t want to go prying into their privacy.” This entire process seemed like a huge invasion, and he didn’t want it to get out of hand.
“You’re a good boss,” Barry said softly.
“What do we do next?” Phillip asked.

Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance

Release Date: April 7 2020

Blurb/Synopsis:
Some moments happen once in a lifetime, and you have to catch them and hold on tight.
Arty Reynolds chased his dream to Broadway, but after his father is injured, he must return to the small fishing community where he grew up, at least until his dad is back on his feet.

Jamie Wilson fled his family farm but failed to achieve real independence. Arty is hiring for a trip on the gulf, and it’ll get Jamie one step closer to his goal.
Neither man plans to stay in Florida long-term, neither is looking for love, and they’re both blown away by the passion that sparks between them. But on a fishing boat, there’s little privacy to see where their feelings might lead. Passion builds like a storm until they reach land, where they also learn they share a common dream. The lives they both long for could line up perfectly, as long as they can weather the strain on their new romance when only one of them may get a chance at their dream.

“What are we looking for?” Jamie asked.
Arty snickered. “I think the meaning of life is supposed to be out there somewhere. But I never found it.” Not on the sea, or land, as far as that went. He turned to Jamie. “Maybe you will.”
Reginald stood, and Beck did the same. “We’ll be ready to shove off on time,” Reginald said.
“Good. We can meet tomorrow to go over the route plan.”
Reginald shook his head. “That isn’t my expertise. Your father was always the one who had the gift for finding the fish. That was his real talent. You get whatever you can from him, and then we’ll go from there.” Reginald and Beck extended their hands, and Arty shook them. Then they left the restaurant, and Arty sat back down.
“You really want to do this?” he asked Jamie, and for the first time, saw doubt flash in his eyes.
“They seem like good people, and I asked around about you after I saw the flyer.” The corners of his lips turned upward. “They said you were doing this to help your dad. That this wasn’t your life. Everyone talked about you as though you were a saint or something.”
Arty scoffed. “Nope. God knows I’m no saint.”
“Me either,” Jamie said. “But I’d never do for my dad what you’re doing for yours.” His gaze shifted slightly, looking out over Arty’s shoulder. “I need to make some money, and I want to see what it’s like out there.”
A notion occurred to Arty. “Have you ever been on a boat?” God, he should have asked that before. What if Jamie got seasick? Good Lord, just what he needed—a landlubber who spent the entire trip puking over the side.
“Yes. On Lake Michigan with my uncle a few times. But that’s not the same as it is down here. I like being outdoors. I tried working in a restaurant for a while, but got stir-crazy always being inside. Hot or cold, even when it rains, it’s best to be outside where you can see it coming.” There was something so serious in Jamie’s voice that it made Arty wonder just what he was saying. It was as if Jamie didn’t have anyone to watch his back, and that maybe the threat was coming from close to home.
“Okay, then,” Arty said, watching Jamie’s faraway expression. There was more to this man than muscles and a baby face. There was pain behind those eyes, tinged with desperation, both of which Arty was well acquainted with.
“Is there anything else?” Jamie asked, and Arty shook his head. Jamie thanked him and stood to leave the covered seating area of the restaurant. Arty found he couldn’t look away as Jamie strode across the parking area before disappearing behind a stand of palm trees.
Arty realized his heart beat faster and he was sweating under his T-shirt, though it wasn’t that warm. Good God, those eyes were nearly as blue as the clear sky. He had a type, Arty knew that, and Jamie ticked every single one of the boxes. Of course, he had no idea if Jamie was gay or even interested, but that banana joke had sure as hell been suggestive. Arty finished his coffee. He needed to get his mind away from that subject and keep it on what was important. He was here to help his dad, not get involved with guys or form any ties. His life was back in New York, and once this little adventure was over, he was returning back to his life and career… such as they were.
“Something… or someone interesting?” Milton asked as he began clearing the table. When Arty lifted his gaze, Milton winked. “I’ve seen him around a few times, and he’s a real nice guy. I think you did a good thing. And who knows? Sometimes nice guys do get rewarded.”

But in the storm that has turned her world upside down, will Violet be able to overcome the nightmare of her past in order to save the future of everyone in Amera, and perhaps the world?

“This first volume in the Evolutionaries series skillfully balances intriguing worldbuilding, whose details are slowly revealed, with well-paced action sequences. It also ably handles Violet’s character development along the way while also offering a diverse, lovable supporting cast whose members become the protagonist’s close friends and allies. The novel effectively addresses themes of cooperation and isolationism as well as autonomy, consent, and moving on with one’s life after learning of long-held secrets.”
“A notable and thoughtful addition to the crowded shelf of post-apocalyptic YA novels.”  Kirkus Review

How long have you been writing?
So if we take it literally, since I was about three. Ha-ha! Ok, seriously probably about four years. I really have been writing longer than that, but it was by no means anything I would ever want to share which probably means I should light a fire tonight.

Have you always wanted to write or was that something that come later in life?
So that’s a really tough question. I have had a really strange life, I took my first college course at the age of sixteen because I dropped out at fourteen got my GED and went on with my life. I was completely independent by then. I had always imagined I would be in music, so writing was more of a lyrical endeavor in my mind. Then life happens, and you end up where you never expected to.
It took a few years to decide I needed something other than photography to keep my creativity going. I was mentally burning out and writing was therapy.

Do you plot your stories before writing or does it just flow when you sit down to write?
I do have a general idea of what I am doing before I start, but I usually let myself have free days to just go nuts, then I do a readback every morning before I continue. I have two jobs, so my time is very structured. I only get so much time to write so I try to make it as efficient as possible.

Do you use a Story Board (Notebooks) to keep everything organized for when you write series?
I do, but not in a traditional sense I suppose. I have a murder board for the big rules, and when I feel like I can’t write for the book that day, I go into character bios and make background histories for all the characters no matter how minor.
This actually helps me know them, and how they would react in situations while I am writing, and makes it feel more organic when I am in the thick of things.

What is the hardest part of writing for you character growth or world building?
The hardest part, of The Evolutionaries series, is that there is just too much. I could tell you everything I imagine the world to look like, smell like, down to the food they are eating. So finding the balance between world building and info dumping has been the biggest challenge.

I love a good story, in all artforms. I have been a professional photographer for nearly 20 years and I had to learn to tell a story with a click of a button and capture the layers of emotion in a single image. Little did I know it was boot camp for writing.
Being an author was a childhood dream and as I got older it seemed to be a dream that grew further out of reach with each passing year. But with encouragement from a lot of friends, new and old, my husband being my biggest cheerleader, The Evolutionaries series has begun with Power Divided.
To keep me company during my writing bubbles are my husband and our fur babies. They love whatever I write, even if they can't read it but they don't always love the music I write to. We all have to make sacrifices! And I am still pinching myself ever since I found out, that, recently I became a Featured Author. Power Divided will be in the Feb 15th Issue of Kirkus Magazine.
"This first volume in the Evolutionaries series skillfully balances intriguing world building, whose details are slowly revealed, with well-paced action sequences. It also ably handles Violet’s character development along the way, while also offering a diverse, lovable supporting cast whose members become the protagonist’s close friends and allies. The novel effectively addresses themes of cooperation and isolationism, as well as autonomy, consent, and moving on with one’s life after learning of long-held secrets." excerpt from Kirkus Review about Power Divided.

STEPHANIE BEHR
It took a long time to realize that being half Chinese and half Filipino, (the country I was born in), then growing up in Texas from the time I was less than a year old, made me a child of many faces, traditions, and ideologies. Needless to say, it was confusing. But it was also amazing, and I am the person I am because of all the places my life has taken me so far, and the people I have met along the way.
When I met my husband, he was a rock star, and I was his biggest fan. His first gift to me was a camera, and without the support of Pushmonkey (his band), I might not have learned how much I love photography and made a career full of priceless moments. Now, Howie is my biggest fan. With photography, we got to work together, and it has taken us around the world. Who would have thought that would happen when I opened that gift, my very first camera?
Photography is the study of light. To capture a story in a moment and freeze emotions with a single click. To commemorate memories for future generations. I learned how to tell a story with a single image. Little did I know it would also be what started me down the path of wanting to tell stories with the written word.
