She’s Like The Wind: An Interview With True Clemmons

We have an extra special treat for readers today. With the countless amazing acts of superheroism performed by the United States Government’s ANGEL Project, the world has come to know a handful of astounding individuals who bear the burden of world-saving on a daily basis. One of these individuals has been with the Project since its inception, and we’ve been granted an exclusive interview with her.
True Clemmons signed on to the project at age 18, leaving behind her home in Savannah, Georgia for a life destined to change the course of human events. Little did she know then, that, five years later, she would be one of the most popular superheroes to date, becoming the crime-fighting partner of Amir Jones, the leader of the West Coast’s Pavo Team for California. The pair form a powerhouse of strength, consistently working to keep their area of operation safe for the people who live there, and were soon joined by Allen Martin, and their newest member, Gabriel Vandermeer.
Her epic ability to control the movement of air is enough to send enemies into a panic at the mention of her name, yet her actions in combat speak to a kinder, more controlled personality than most might have when given command of such an amazing ability. I was granted an exclusive interview via the web for this piece, for which we thank the ANGEL Project for their generosity.
Marsha: Thank you so much for this opportunity, Ms. Clemmons. There are great demands on your time, so I appreciate you giving us this chance today.
True: Of course. It’s my pleasure, Ms. Sinclair. I always enjoy your articles, so I’m happy to be here with you.
Marsha: I shouldn’t be surprised you’ve read my work, as I understand you have an interest in Political Science. Most people might not know that you’re a huge news junkie. Was that always an interest of yours?
True: A little when I was younger, yes, but, doing what I do, I like to stay up to date on current events so I’m not unprepared if a situation arises where my help is required.
Marsha: I’m sure. So, what else occupies your time besides your job? Do you have any other outside interests or hobbies?
True: (chuckling) Well, with LA’s superhero week coming up, I’ve been busy preparing the Pavo Team’s wardrobe. Had I not been picked up for the program, fashion design was actually my fallback plan. Once the ANGEL Project realized I had a talent for creating clothing, they assigned me that task whenever there was a fancy event the ANGELs needed to make an appearance at. They prefer to keep as much in-house as possible, so that’s one more way they can avoid bringing in contract workers.
Marsha: Yes. The ANGEL Project is very secretive about what it is they do. I suppose the fewer people that know about the inner workings of it, the safer it is for you.
True: It’s as secretive as any military base ever is. The main concern for us is that the process used to create the ANGELs isn’t given to the wrong people. Our jobs are hard enough as it is with the dirty genetic evolution labs churning out unstable experiments and unleashing them on the public. I can’t imagine the damage that could be done if the wrong people figured out how to create supervillains. Humanity has plenty of problems without adding that to the mix.
Marsha: You’re absolutely right. The ANGELs already have their hands full with unstables and natural disasters and global conflicts, not to mention the smaller troubles you’re often called in to deal with. The thought of people with the worst intentions gaining super abilities is pretty frightening. Still, I would think it would be tiring to live in such seclusion at the Project Headquarters constantly. Tell me, do you ever wish you could go back and make a different choice, living the life of a normal citizen?
True: Have I thought about it? Sure. Would I have made a different decision if I knew then everything I know now? Probably not. I’ve prevented more deaths than I can count and improved more lives than I can imagine. That, to me, is well worth the tradeoff.
Marsha: I’m sure there are things you must miss, though. College, a job where death isn’t a very possible outcome, dating… isn’t there anything you regret not having because of what you do?
True: Honestly, no. I don’t have to write research papers or take endless tests, I’ll never be bored at a desk job all day, and, from my limited experience, dating wasn’t really all it was cracked up to be. I wasn’t a huge fan of parties or uncomfortable first dates when I was doing those things, so, no, I can’t say I’m missing out on any of that.
Marsha: Well, I’m sure you’re aware of the rumors that you already have a relationship. Is there any truth to the assumptions about you and Mr. Jones?
True: We have a very close, working relationship. We’re members of a team and like family to one another. People will read into it what they want to, I’m sure, but all of the ANGELs are extremely close. When you rely on a small group of others as much as we do, those relationships won’t be understood by anyone on the outside. And, to be fair, I have much bigger issues to deal with than romance right now. Who has time to worry about dating when you’re trying to save the world all day?
Marsha: Fair point. So, any interesting new up-and-comers to watch out for in the newest batch of recruits?
True: I’m not really at liberty to talk about any of the ANGELs in training before they’ve completed the process, but, yes, there might be a few that cause a stir. You never really know what you’re going to get with any new recruit, so it’s always interesting to see what they become. The ANGEL Project only takes the best of the best, however, so they’re never disappointing.
Marsha: I think the world would I agree with you. The ANGELS have solid reputations of intelligence and kindness, so the rigorous screening process seems to have paid off.
True: Well, that is the goal of… (alarm sounds in the background)
Marsha: Does that sound mean our time is up?
True: Afraid so. Duty calls. Sorry to cut this short, but…
Marsha: Think nothing of it, Ms. Clemmons. Thank you for talking with me today.
